Craft Coffee: A Manual

Art direction, illustration, and layout for Craft Coffee: A Manual, an information-packed guide for home brewers.

I had the honor of not only designing this book, but also creating the illustrations that are used on the cover and throughout.

I chose Harriet, a friendly serif created by a local Chicago type designer, for the body text. This typeface allowed us to pack the pages pretty tightly, keeping the page count and production costs down without sacrificing ease or approachability.

We had a fun photoshoot of all the devices that needed illustrated for the book. It was important that everything be drawn to scale, so I set up a tripod and we rotated in all the different products and configurations. My cat, Charley, was sure to make it about her—as per usual.
